Fact: Michael NEVER bought the Elephant Man's bones back in the 1980's. He allowed that rumor to circulate for publicity for his new album "Bad", but due to the sensationalism wake it caused he stopped leaking untruths to the press.

What Was Published: The media reported that Jackson wanted to buy the bones of Joseph Merrick (the "elephant man") even though the story was untrue. Michael stopped leaking untruths to the press as they became more sensational, SO THE MEDIA BEGAN MAKING UP THEIR OWN STORIES.
